Region Östergötland

In Enlish - Plug In

Region Östergötland has set out to ensure that more students should be successful with their studies and receive an upper secondary school leaving certificate.

Region Östergötland, in cooperation with the regions’ municipalities, initiated and implemented the project Plug In during 2012. This is a national initiative financed by the European Social Fund and led by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR).

In autumn 2015, Part 2 of the project started, Plug In 2.0, which targets young people between 15 and 24 who are at risk of terminating or of not starting their secondary education or have already terminated their studies. The overall aim is to increase the quality within upper secondary school so that more young people will receive a high school diploma and finally have better chances of getting a job. The project will also result in a decrease in drop-outs of participating upper secondary schools and the number of qualified pupils for upper secondary school should increase in the participating schools.

Four municipalities in Östergötland are responsible for so-called “development workshops” within the project during the academic year 2015/2016. It consists of various activities aimed at developing successful methods/models which contribute to the prevention of study failure and drop-out of upper secondary school. One example is to develop working methods in the upper secondary school, which is cooperation between the local social and education authority in order to reduce student absenteeism or development of cooperation between school and work.  Methods and workshops are based on daily school life and they find solutions through scientific research and proven experience.
